How to rebuild the Spotlight index on your Mac - Apple Support Also check by choosing your Mac HD and "Get Info" (command-i). Look in About this Mac > System Report > Storage. The Storage tab does not always report correctly. disk is almost full.Īny thoughts what might be taking up all this room on my hard drive? Any steps I should take? I replaced the original hard drive with a 1TB SSD, and tried migrating everything over from the cloned hard drive, and same thing. I made a clone of the hard drive, and whatever is taking up room on the original hard drive got cloned over to the back up hard drive. When I look at "About This Mac" and look at the "Storage" tab, it shows the vast majority of the disk space is taken up by "other." I ran terminal to show all the hidden files, and even taking the hidden files into account doesn't come close to what is showing up as total used. I checked the "calculate all sizes" for the view options, starting at the top of the directory for the hard drive, but the total when adding up the size of all the folders doesn't even come close to the total hard drive space (I can account for maybe half the total disk space when adding up the folders). The drive is almost full, but really shouldn't be. The hard drive is a 1 TB HD with several user accounts. Something is eating up all the space on the internal hard drive on my 27-inch, Late 2009 iMac running El Capitan.
